YMCA Addition

Berkeley, CA

The YMCA is a 29,600 square foot addition to an existing 44,000 square foot facility. The construction cost of the new portion is approximately $4.2 million. The new facility includes a 25-yard swimming pool covered by a full-size gymnasium, with a fitness center, locker rooms, and administrative space. The addition provides a new main entry with disabled access to the building and all facilities within. The existing 1910 historic building was retrofitted seismically and for disabled access as well as up-to-date fire safety features. The new and remodeled buildings provide fitness space for 6,000 members. The building was designed to complement architecturally the 1910 building and tie together its 1960 building as well as neighboring buildings.
