The Carpenter's Union Building is located at the foot of historic Jack
London Square in downtown Oakland. The new building replaces an existing
dilapidated structure, and has has been designed architecturally to fit
into the style and flavor of the neighborhood. The three story structure
is supported on cast-in-place concrete piles and grade beams. At the
front of the building, a three-story special concrete moment-resisting
space frame was used, while the sides and back utilize concrete masonry
wall construction. The second and third floors and roof are wood-framed.
A central atrium has been integrated to provide natural light to the
interior spaces.
