HISTORY AND SERVICES

In 1978, Paul Fratessa and Michael Forbes founded a small corporation in Oakland that would serve clients, the community, and the engineering profession. In the twenty-three years since, the firm has been dedicated to providing high quality, innovative, and cost-effective structural engineering services while contributing to the advancement of the profession.

Originally named Paul F. Fratessa Associates, the name was changed in 1997 to Fratessa Forbes Wong to reflect the shift in ownership and management from Paul and Mike to Mike and Greg Wong. Mike has been President since 1995, and Greg, who joined the firm in 1983, is now Vice President.

Fratessa Forbes Wong has a long history of successful performance on varied and complex projects. In the past twenty-three years, the firm has provided a wide variety of structural consulting services. These include:

  Design of structural systems for buildings (commercial, institutional, public, parking and more);

  Design of structural systems for slope stabilizations and retaining wall systems;

  Evaluation of existing building structural systems for code compliance or expected performance;

  Peer review services and plan check services;

  Consulting services for the insurance industry related to damage assessment and building code application to repairs;

  Consulting services for the legal profession related to forensic investigation, expert witnessing, and building evaluation.

For projects involving new building designs, the firm is best suited and has most of its experience in moderate to mid-sized projects ($500,000 to $3,000,000), but is also quite capable of servicing large scale low and mid-rise projects (up to $60,000,000), as evidenced by the Monterey Plaza Hotel, the California Youth Authority complex in Stockton, and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

Fratessa Forbes Wong has developed and utilizes state of the art computer technology for structural engineering analysis, design, and drafting.
